Food for thought...

Tonight gave club members the opportunity to experiment and be creative in the world of food and still life photography. There were many different types of food used for the subject material and a range of props to achieve the desired lighting effects. Light boxes, flash and nano lights were projected onto fruits, veg, biscuits, cake, eggs and mushrooms to name but a few of the items located at different shooting stations around the room.

The use of an old flat TV screen, provided by David, proved really useful for achieving a lovely reflection of the subject. Members moved around to photograph different subject matter, chat and perhaps gain advice from more experienced members. It was a very informal introduction to this genre of photography with everyone engaged in trying something out.

Bobby held a side tutorial on how to use coloured lights to photograph a ‘web’ created using strands of glue suspended over a jam jar. Macro photography has many dimensions and can be done with the simplest of materials, plus it’s always fun to learn something new from an experienced club member.

One still life image of a delectable plate of Mr Kipling’s French Fancies was left looking somewhat unbalanced after the disappearance of one of the cakes. The case is still unsolved but Robert knows who did it!!

Another great club night when ‘time just flies’ as the saying goes, when you are busy with photography or just busy eating buns. Thanks to those members who brought along the subject materials and all the props required for a successful evening.
